Chapter Conduct History

The information on this website is provided in the spirit of transparency and accountability throughout the University of Virginia Greek system. Greek organizations at the University of Virginia are self-governed, and therefore responsible for their choices and actions. Disciplinary infractions are reported on this website only if a student organization is found responsible following appropriate due process procedures. Greek population: approximately 4,800 members (27% of undergraduate population)

IFC-JC re-affirmed compliance with UJC sanctions.
Spring 2021 Theta Chi UJC; IFC violation of University's SEC-045 policy governing COVID complianceviolation of IFC standards for conduct and character; violation of IFC ban on social events;  Required IFCJC outcomes included community service and written/oral apology.  UJC (University Judiciary Committee) outcomes are confidential per UJC by-laws. IFC-JC re-affirmed compliance with UJC sanctions.
Spring 2021 Zeta Psi UJC; IFC violation of University's SEC-045 policy governing COVID compliance; violation of IFC ban on social events Required IFCJC outcomes included social suspension for 4 weeks (once Tier I events are allowed post-COVID) and oral or written acknowledgment to IJC-JC.  UJC (University Judiciary Committee) outcomes are confidential per UJC by-laws. IFC-JC re-affirmed compliance with UJC sanctions.
Spring 2021 Pi Kappa Phi UJC; IFC violation of University's SEC-045 policy governing COVID compliance; violation of IFC ban on social events Required IFCJC outcomes included social suspension for 3 weeks (once Tier I events are allowed post-COVID), two-semester suspension held in abeyance, required COVID education programming, institution of house guest list, and removal of a first round rush event.  UJC (University Judiciary Committee) outcomes are confidential per UJC by-laws.
Spring 2021 Sigma Chi UJC; IFC violation of University's SEC-045 policy governing COVID compliance; violation of IFC ban on social events IFCJC recommended immediate suspension of FOA through end of spring 2021, completion of required COVID education programming, institution of house guest list, appointment of a COVID Compliance manager, and written apology to all IFC chapters.  UJC (University Judiciary Committee) outcomes are confidential per UJC by-laws. IFC-JC re-affirmed compliance with UJC sanctions.
Spring 2021 Chi Phi UJC; IFC violation of University's SEC-045 policy governing COVID compliance; violation of IFC ban on social events Required IFCJC outcomes included social suspension for 5 weeks (once Tier I events are allowed post-COVID), one-year suspection held in abeyance; required COVID education programming, institution of house guest list, and appointment of a COVID Compliance manager.  UJC (University Judiciary Committee) outcomes are confidential per UJC by-laws.
Spring 2021 Phi Gamma Delta UJC; IFC violation of University's SEC-045 policy governing COVID compliance; violation of IFC ban on social events The chapter standards Board mandated community service, monetary fines, letter of apology, and suspension from all fraternity activity until graduation for all fourth-years; IFC issued one semester suspension held in abeyance,  required COVID education programming, institution of house guest list, and appointment of a COVID Compliance manager.  UJC (University Judiciary Committee) outcomes are confidential per UJC by-laws.

Spring 2020 Sigma Chi UJC; IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding physical abuse/conduct that threatens health or safety of others; disorderly conduct on fraternity property; and general behavior expected of members of the fraternity system at UVA Required IFCJC outcomes included social suspension for 5 weeks (once Tier I events are allowed post-COVID), mandatory philanthrophy event, fine, and oral admonition.  UJC (University Judiciary Committee) outcomes are confidential per UJC by-laws.
Spring 2020 Alpha Epsilon Pi IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and recruitment. Unresolved due to COVID disruption; complaint will be considered as a prior for any future violations/complaints
Spring 2020 Kappa Alpha IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and recruitment. Required IFCJC outcomes included  loss of a 2021 recruitment event.
Spring 2020 St. Elmo Hall IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and recruitment. Required IFCJC outcomes included a fine and completion of an alcohol education program.
Fall 2019 St. Elmo Hall IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and social events. IFCJC outcome undocumented
Fall 2019 Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and social events. Required IFCJC outcomes included a fine and submission of a revised risk management plan to the IFC and Fraternity & Sorority Life by November 8, 2019.
Spring 2019 Chi Phi IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and recruitment. Required IFCJC outcomes included a fine, loss of 2020 recruitment event and a one-week social probation (February 4 through February 11, 2019). 
Spring 2019 Alpha Epsilon Pi IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and recruitment. Required IFCJC outcomes included a fine.

Spring 2019 Sigma Nu IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and recruitment. Required IFCJC outcomes included a loss of a 2020 recruitment event.

Spring 2019 Delta Sigma Phi IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and recruitment. Required IFCJC outcomes included a fine and a loss of a 2020 recruitment event.

Spring 2019 Pi Beta Phi ISC The chapter failed to comply with ISC standards regarding alcohol and social functions.  Required ISC outcomes included a two week social probation (February 25 through March 8) and completion of educational programming on safety and alcohol awareness. 
Spring 2019 Kappa Alpha IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and social functions. Required IFCJC outcomes included a fine and completion of educational programming on alcohol. Further incidents of alcohol violations will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Spring 2019 Alpha Phi ISC The chapter failed to comply with ISC standards regarding alcohol and social functions.  Required ISC outcomes included submission of a revised risk management plan to the ISC and Fraternity & Sorority Life and completion of educational programming on alcohol safety and awareness. 
Spring 2019 Zeta Tau Alpha HQ The chapter failed to comply with national standards regarding new member education. Required HQ outcomes included completion of educational programming on new member education, alcohol and multicultural competency. 
Fall 2018 Delta Upsilon IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and social events. Required IFCJC outcomes included completion of an education program on alcohol and a fine. Further incidents of alcohol violations will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Fall 2018 Lambda Phi Epsilon HQ The chapter failed to comply with national standards regarding social events.  Required HQ outcomes included social suspension through the remainder of the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semester, completion of Lambda Phi Epsilon Code of Conduct training, and attendance at Lambda Phi Epsilon's President's Orientation program. Further incidents of Code of Conduct violations will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Fall 2018 Chi Psi IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and social events. Required IFCJC outcomes included completion of educational programming on alcohol and a fine. Further incidents of alcohol  violations  will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Fall 2018 Beta Theta Pi University; HQ The chapter failed to comply with national standards regarding social events.  Required University and HQ outcomes included social suspension through the end of the fall 2018 semester, required review of social function plans with HQ staff, submission of Executive Board Meetings and Chapter meetings to HQ on a weekly basis, completion of recruitment workshop/training provided by HQ and completion of risk management and inclusivity training provided by University staff.
Spring 2018 Alpha Chi Omega University The chapter failed to comply with University standards regarding alcohol.  Required University outcomes included the completion of an alcohol education program with 100% attendance from the chapter. 
Spring 2018 Phi Gamma Delta IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and recruitment. Required IFCJC outcomes included a fine. Further incidents of alcohol and/or recruitment violations will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Spring 2018 Sigma Nu IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and recruitment. Required IFCJC outcomes included a fine. Further incidents of alcohol and/or recruitment violations will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Spring 2018 Pi Kappa Phi IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and recruitment. Required IFCJC outcomes included removal of one recruitment event for spring 2019. Further incidents of alcohol and/or recruitment violations will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Spring 2018 Phi Society IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding general conduct. Required IFCJC outcomes included completion of educational programming of sexual assault prevention and/or general conduct.
Spring 2018 Phi Kappa Psi University; IFC The chapter failed to comply with University and IFC standards regarding alcohol, recruitment, and new member education.   Required University and IFCJC outcomes included completion of an educational program on hazing prevention, discontinuation of all physical activities associated with IFC Bid Day and new member education,  submission of revised IFC Bid Day activities and new member education plan to Fraternity & Sorority Life staff, and a fine. Further incidents of new member education violations will result in the immediate termination of the chapter's Fraternal Organization Agreement. 
Spring 2018 Sigma Lambda Upsilon University The chapter failed to comply with University standards regarding new member education.  Required University outcomes included submission of a revised new member education plan, loss of new member presentation privileges for spring 2018, and a period of suspension from May 2-August 28, 2018. Further violations of new member education policies will result in the termination of the chapter's Fraternal Organization Agreement.  
Spring 2018 St. Elmo Hall IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding personal conduct. Required IFCJC outcomes included completion of an educational program on personal conduct and a fine. Further incidents of personal conduct violations will result in sanctions of increased severity.
Spring 2018 Sigma Alpha Epsilon IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding recruitment. Required IFCJC outcomes included a fine and additional recruitment event location restrictions. Further incidents of recruitment violations will result in sanctions of increased severity.
Spring 2018 Kappa Sigma IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and recruitment. Required IFCJC outcomes included completion of an educational program on alcohol and a fine. Further incidents of alcohol or recruitment violations will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Spring 2018 Pi Kappa Alpha IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol. Required IFCJC outcomes included completion of an education program on alcohol and a fine. Further incidents of alcohol violations will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Spring 2018 Sigma Nu IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and social events. Required IFCJC outcomes included submission of revised social function policies addressing alcohol consumption. Further incidents of alcohol violations will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Fall 2017 Gamma Sigma Tau University The chapter failed to comply with University standards regarding recruitment. Required University outcomes included removal of new member presentation privileges for the fall of 2017 and social probation (September 28-October 31, 2017). 
Fall 2017 Phi Gamma Delta IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and social events.  Required IFCJC outcomes included a fine. Further incidents of alcohol and/or social event violations will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Fall 2017 Omega Psi Phi University The chapter failed to comply with University standards regarding alcohol and social events. Required University outcomes included submission of revised risk management procedures and philanthropy guidelines to Fraternity & Sorority Life. 
Fall 2017 Sigma Kappa ISC The chapter failed to comply with ISC standards regarding recruitment. Required ISC outcomes included a review of NPC Unanimous Agreement policies.
Fall 2017 Delta Zeta ISC The chapter failed to comply with ISC standards regarding recruitment. Required ISC outcomes included a review of NPC Unanimous Agreement policies.
Fall 2017 Alpha Chi Omega ISC The chapter failed to comply with ISC standards regarding recruitment. Required ISC outcomes included a fine. 
Fall 2017 Sigma Phi Society University The chapter failed to comply with University standards regarding alcohol and new member education The chapter's Fraternal Organization Agreement was terminated in Fall 2017. The fraternity was conditionally reinstated to participate in the Spring 2018 recruitment process.
Fall 2017 Pi Lambda Phi IFC The chapter failed to comply with IFC standards regarding alcohol and social events.  Required IFCJC outcomes included a fine and revision of social function safety policy.  Further incidents of alcohol and/or social event violations will result in sanctions of increased severity. 
Fall 2017 Alpha Delta Phi University The chapter failed to comply with University standards regarding programming attendance. The chapter's Fraternal Organization Agreement was suspended until May 18, 2018.
