About FSL

FSL staff group photoThe Office of the Dean of Students/ Fraternity & Sorority Life was founded in 2001 by an initiative of the Board of Visitors to educate and support our students in recognized chapters as they shape organizations promoting principles of scholarship, leadership, service, diversity, and honor. We are committed to strengthening student self-governance and leadership on the individual chapter and governing council levels. Our office team also serves as the University liaison to alumnae, alumni and chapter headquarters´ staff.

 

Hal TurnerHal Turner (email)

Hal Turner serves as the Assistant Dean and Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life. Hal graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History, a Masters of Education degree in Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education and is in the process of completing his doctorate in Higher Education Administration at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education. While at the University of Virginia, Hal was a member of the men’s club lacrosse team, served on the Inter-Fraternity Council, the Honor Committee, and was the president of the Curry School’s Education Council. Prior to returning to the University to pursue his master’s and doctorate in higher education and serve as the graduate intern for Fraternity & Sorority Life and later the Vice Provost of Faculty Development, Hal spent two years teaching special needs students in New Orleans, Louisiana with Teach for America. Hal is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.


Terri WerleTerri Werle (email)

Terri Werle serves as the Administrative Assistant of Fraternity & Sorority Life. Her background is in accounting, sales and marketing, program coordination, and administrative support. Terri is the current Facilities Director for Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority here at UVA.

 

 

Trisha HerndonTrisha Herndon (email)

Trisha serves as the Office Manager for Student Activities, PAC and Fraternity & Sorority Life. Trisha graduated from Bluefield College with a Bachelors in Organizational Management & Development. Her background is in budget management, program coordination, and administrative.

 

 

M. Spencer Hudec (email)

Originally from San Antonio, Texas Spencer Hudec serves as the Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life. Spencer graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. As an undergraduate she served thef community as a Counselor and Coordianator for the Extended Orientation program, a Senator in the Student Government Association and served two terms on the Panhellenic Executive Board in addition to a variety of officer positions within her sorority. She earned a Master of Science degree in College Student Development & Counseling from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. She holds dual affiliation in Alpha Delta Pi International Sorority and Kappa Gamma Chi, Local Sorority.

Caroline Ott (email)

Caroline Ott serves as the Program Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life.  Caroline graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Leadership, and graduated from the College of William & Mary with a Master’s of Higher Education Administration. As an undergraduate she was highly involved both within her sorority’s leadership and with the Office of fraternity and Sorority Life serving as a Greek Life intern for all four councils.  Prior to getting her Master’s degree, Caroline served as an Education Leadership Consultant for her sorority, Delta Zeta, for two years visiting over 70 universities across the country.

Grace Gardner (email)

Grace Gardner serves as the Graduate Assistant for Fraternity and Sorority Life. Originally from Cincinnati, Grace graduated with leadership distinction from the University of South Carolina in December of 2015 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in International Studies and Women's and Gender Studies. While at USC, Grace was a member of the Leadership and Service Team, on the executive board for Relay for Life, and served as a peer leader for University 101 programs, an Emerging Leaders Program mentor, and a Greek ambassador. Prior to coming to UVA to get her Masters of Education in Higher Education, Grace lived in San Francisco, working as a Learning Center Office Manager for a private education company. Grace is a member of Alpha Chi Omega.
